Jazeera Airways Launches Flights To Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Auckland-Hobart route is the first new international passenger service the airline has introduced because the Covid-19 pandemic curtailed international air travel initially of 2020. It is meant to incentivise passengers to seek alternative preparations from flying, which is the most carbon-intensive form of transport. By decreasing demand for flights, it seeks to lower carbon emissions from the air industry. Although I doubt we’ll ever see anything more than Hobart-Auckland flights offered and perhaps, if things go very well, a flight to Christchurch or Queenstown.
For a few flights every week, you don’t need anything more than a naked bones international terminal with maybe one small obligation free store, just like many Pacific island airports. Hobart won’t ever be something prefer it’s a lot larger mainland gateway airports. Qantas managed to launch Perth from Hobart final 12 months without subsidies and is now every day 12 months round on the route with up to twice every day flights over summer season. Not being able to hub through Melbourne and Sydney for months the airlines had been pressured to supply direct flights which have remained with correspondingly large cuts to frequencies into Melbourne.
